Description:

Yue Minjun may have created Vancouver’s most loved art piece when he completed and installed A-Maze-Ing Laughter. Those who visit absolutely light up as they mimic the statues’ faces and poses, they hang of their arms, run around them in circles, and take so many photos. It can be difficult to figure out what is more entertaining, the statues or the spectators! Vancouver Biennale is a public art organization that curates installments of art that last for a limited amount of time. However, thanks to a donation by Chip Wilson (creator of Vancouver’s clothing brand, Lululemon) A-Maze-Ing Laughter became a permanent fixture in the scape of English Bay. The statues were created in Minjun’s own image, a gaping smile and squinted eyes of hysterical laughter. What do you think these statues are laughing at?
