FAQ’S

What is your cancellation policy?

You can cancel your booking for a full refund with minimum 24 hours notice before your departure time. Due to limited space on our public tours, no refund is possible within 24 hours of tour departure.

Please Note: We may be able to reschedule your booking if unforeseen circumstances arise. This is based on tour availability.

What if it rains?

Our city is located in a Temperate Coastal Rainforest climate, so it does rain here regularly. As Vancouverites, we don’t let “liquid sunshine” keep us from riding and our tours depart rain or shine. You can still have an amazing tour if dressed for the weather, and we provide light ponchos for your use.

We do understand that not everyone wants to get wet, so if it is raining two hours prior to your tour and you’d rather not ride, call us at 604-618-8626 and we will happily refund your tour in full or try to reschedule if possible.

Please Note: June, July, August and September are typically the driest months of the year, but it is wise to bring along an extra layer just in case the forecast indicates a chance of rain (local forecast).

Do I have to book a tour in advance?

Yes, please book in advance as space is limited. You can book your desired tour and departure time on our bookings page. If you’d like to join a tour departing in the next 24 hours, please contact us directly to see if we can find you a place.

Where do the tours start and end?

All tours depart from and return to our shop at 648 Hornby Street.

What time should I arrive for the tour? What if I’m late?

Please arrive no less than 15 minutes in advance of your tour departure so that you have time to sign a waiver form and be fitted for bike and helmet.

Tours start promptly at the time stated. We cannot wait for late guests as this affects the experience of other riders. If you are late, please try calling as we may be able to help you catch up to the group.

Should I tip my guide?

While not mandatory, tipping is appropriate and our guides certainly appreciate it for a job well done! As in other service-based industries, tipping encourages the outstanding service that our guides continue to provide. Please consider this when planning your monetary needs on the tour.

What kind of bicycles do you use?

Our bikes are comfortable, upright city bikes with 8 speeds – perfect for casual city touring. We also offer other styles based on availability. Helmet, basket or handlebar bag for small personal items are all included. See our rental page for more details on our bikes.

Can I keep my bike for the rest of the day?

Absolutely! Your guide will point out other areas of interest and can suggest a great route to keep you pedalling for the rest of the day. The cost to keep your bike until day end is $10. We also offer a 25% rental discount to tour guests who return to rent another day. Many do!

Can I bring my own bike?

Of course! Many hotels also offer complimentary bike use, and you are welcome to bring them. Keep in mind that we cannot guarantee or repair any bikes on tour that are not our own. If you bring your own bike, please make sure it is in good working order. When booking online you can indicate that no rental is required and you’ll receive a discounted rate on the tour.

What if I haven’t ridden a bike in many years?

Our tours require basic riding ability and fitness and your guide will set a very relaxed pace. Expect to ride for a maximum of 15 – 20 minutes at a time between breaks. We make every effort to cater to the slowest rider in the group, but keep in mind that we have to try to keep our schedule on time. We stop regularly for information, bathroom breaks, and photo ops. Your tour leader will go over general group riding etiquette so that everyone rides safely, and you can come early to practice on our bikes to get comfortable before departure.

Please Note: on custom or private tours, if your group would like to ride further or faster, just let your tour leader know and we can pick up the pace!

Do I have to wear a helmet?

Yes! It’s the law in British Columbia for everyone (adults included) to wear a helmet. Our shop will supply a helmet with your bike and you must wear it while riding. You may bring your own if you prefer.

What Should I bring?

  • Comfortable footwear (closed toe shoes) and bike-friendly clothes.
  • Cash or cards for any goodies or souvenirs you would like to purchase on the way. We may visit galleries, markets, or small shops where you can choose to purchase something.
  • Don’t forget your Camera!

Be prepared for any kind of weather as the forecast can change quickly here on the West Coast. Check out our current weather forecast. If it is raining, see policy above. Light ponchos will be available to borrow from your guide.

Can I bring my kids on the tour?

In order to meet the needs of both children and adults, we ask that families with children 10 and under contact us to schedule a private family tour. If your youngster is experienced on a bike and mature enough to spend the day with a group of adults, we would love to have them along.   Ultimately, you know your child’s ability the best.

Is there a minimum number of riders required for booking?

We want to make sure everyone who wants to come on a Cycle City Tour has the opportunity, but our public tours require a minimum of two guests. You may book in as an individual, but we may get in touch in the rare case that we have no other bookings to see if you want to change tours or dates.

Is there parking available?

There are parking lots very close to our shop, but keep in mind that parking downtown can be expensive and driving can be stressful if you’re not familiar with our streets.  We highly recommend walking or taking transit or a cab. We are very short walk from most downtown hotels as well as sky train stops.
